Nigeria, a nation brimming with entrepreneurial spirit and resolve, has historically encountered formidable hurdles in socioeconomic development and technology, majorly due to infrastructure deficiencies, chiefly within the realms of power and energy. This lack of stable and consistent Infrastructure has taken a toll not just on the nation’s economy, but also on booming startups and small-scale enterprises that frequently grapple with power outages and disruptions – often without prior notice. However, if remedied, such infrastructure stability could bring unprecedented prosperity and equitable development across all towns and cities, consequently easing the issue of urban overconcentration.
21st Century Technologies Limited, a trailblazer in Nigeria’s Information Technology arena, has acknowledged the size of this challenge. As per a report from The Punch, the company has undertaken an in-depth review of its operations, while aligning its strategy to resolving some of the most pernicious development challenges facing the country, stated Mr Waje Ajisebutu, the Chief Executive Officer of 21st Century Technologies.
Mr Ajisebutu reflected on the pressing issues stunting national growth, asserting an immediate need for solutions to address these challenges. The most significant setbacks, as per his analysis, include improving power and energy infrastructure, reinforcing food, security and agriculture, stimulating wealth creation and employment, enhancing mass transportation, implementing land reforms, focusing on education, and bolstering national security.
The CEO revealed encouraging news: the tech firm has devised solutions for these issues, all with the aim of fostering a more conducive environment for national progression. He affirmed:
“At the heart of these solutions are bespoke strategies to address these challenges. They draw from local insights but meet global standards. We firmly believe that Nigerians deserve the best. Therefore, our solutions are intrinsically Nigerian to effectively tackle local challenges. We see Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a fundamental tool that Nigerians can leverage to enhance service delivery strategy and instigate innovations for the development of the economy.”
With increasing reports of illicit activities such as kidnappings and terrorist attacks, coupled with an underperforming agriculture sector barely feeding Nigeria’s flourishing population of over 180 million, the involvement of 21st Century Technologies is indeed a refreshingly positive development. Over the years, an escalating migration towards white-collar jobs has led to rural depopulation, further mounting pressure on urban areas. Unfortunately, the unemployment rate continues to rise in parallel.
Mr Ajisebutu further emphasized that the ICT firm’s solutions were strategically designed to be context-specific. The idea is to avoid a futile, cyclical pursuit of solutions that may not resonate with Nigeria’s unique challenges, thereby providing negligible results. He expounded:
“The strategies have been meticulously crafted by some of the world’s premier minds, taking the Nigerian environment into account. We cannot simply replicate strategies successful in other regions and anticipate them to work seamlessly here.”
The introduction of robust and context-specific innovations by 21st Century Technologies could prove instrumental in empowering the youth by combating unemployment and energizing small enterprises for improved service delivery – all through the enhancement of the power and energy infrastructure.
