5 Frugal Internet Options for Traveling Freelancers

Traveling is fun, but it costs so much. Between lodging fees and planning meals, it can become expensive after a while. However, there are many ways you can stay frugal during your travels. For example, traveling freelancers don’t have to break the bank to use the Internet.

Keeping clients updated during projects no matter where you are is important. Hence, a reliable Internet service is vital to have for freelancing success.

Don’t work yourself to the bone though! In between freelancing projects, you can try Sport Betting using your chosen Internet access.

You can place pre-game or live betting wagers on any sport. Live betting is a smarter strategy since you can make wagers in real time based on what’s happening during the game. Pre-game betting is more effective for veteran sports bettors.

1. Purchase Regional SIM Cards and Data Plans

Local prepaid SIM cards come with affordable rates. Before going to your next destination, research the best regional SIM card carriers.

Try an international SIM card compatible in multiple countries as you navigate various destinations. Brands like Google Fi, Airalo, or Skyroam have competitive rates based on intended data usage.

Unlock your phone so you can change the SIM cards as needed. Save SIM cards from other regions in a cartridge storage case. Ensure to temporarily cancel the plan if the SIM card won’t work at your next destination. Then, you can be prepared for your next trip to that region by reactivating service as needed.

2. Find a Co-Working Space

Freelancing is sometimes a lonely career. Sure, you communicate verbally during remote Google Meet or Zoom meetings. It’s not the same as working in an office setting with other professionals in your field.

Co-working spaces allow freelancers to work in a physical setting together. They can share the available amenities while collaborating together for ideas on their projects.

Conduct research on social media and throughout the Internet to find co-working spaces local to your travel destination. Most of these spaces customize features with traveling freelancers in mind.

Websites such as Nomad List can connect you with available co-working spaces local to your travel destination. European and Southeast Asian destinations have some of the most low-cost or free co-working spaces available for traveling freelancers.

3. Work At Different Places Using Public Wi-Fi

Freelancers are in command of when and where they work as long as they meet client deadlines. Such flexibility makes it easy to change up their work environment daily.

Map out where public Wi-Fi is available before visiting your next destination. Rotate where you go to gain public Wi-Fi. This is especially important for safety so other people don’t figure out your schedule.

Check cafes, libraries, and restaurants for Wi-Fi access. Especially if you are on a budget and want to cut out hotspot or SIM card expenses, public Wi-Fi could be your primary Internet source. However, regular usage requires taking extra safety precautions. Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to safeguard your information from potential data breaches.

4. Try a Wi-Fi Hotspot

Connect to the Internet with a portable Wi-Fi hotspot accessible with a data network. Choose global hotspot providers like Skyroam that offer affordable data packages anywhere you are traveling.

Check your chosen hotspot provider to be sure they offer data coverage at your destination. There’s also the option of Wi-Fi sharing with apps like TravelWifi or the Nomad List community to share Wi-Fi access to reduce costs for traveling freelancers.

5. Lodge Where There’s Free Wi-Fi

Find a package deal with your lodging accommodations that include free Wi-Fi. Have a productive staycation where you can enjoy the hotel or hostel’s amenities in between finishing freelancing gigs.
