Samsung finally lifted the curtain on the much-awaited Galaxy Note 7 today. Here’s a snapshot of its appealing features, intriguing enhancements, and impressive specifications.

The operating system (OS) is Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) which interestingly, further corroborates the buzz that the LGV20 will be the first smartphone to garner the upcoming Android 7.0, interestingly dubbed Nougat.

The network bands supported by Galaxy Note 7 include LTE Cat.12, LTE Cat.10, and LTE Cat.9, but this may vary based on different markets and mobile operators. Its sleek design measures 153.5 x 73.9 x 7.9mm, with a weight of 169g.

The processing power is provided by an Octa-core processor (2.3GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad), 64 bit, 14 nm process. It houses a 4GB RAM (LPDDR4) and offers 64GB (UFS 2.0) of internal storage.

The 5.7” Quad HD Dual edge Super AMOLED screen boasts a resolution of 2560 x 1440 (518ppi). The camera quality is impressive, with Rear: Dual Pixel 12MP OIS (F1.7) and Front: 5MP (F1.7) that perform admirably under various lighting conditions.

The phone houses a 3,500 mAh battery, supports Fast Charging on both wired and wireless modes, and is also compatible with wireless charging standards set by WPC and PMA. The phone supports payments via NFC and MST.

Connectivity features are well catered for with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), MIMO(2×2) 620Mbps, Bluetooth v 4.2 LE, ANT+, USB Type-C, NFC, and Location (GPS, Glonass, Beidou).

The Galaxy Note 7 brims with an array of sensors including Barometer, Fingerprint Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor, HR Sensor, Iris Sensor, Proximity Sensor, and RGB Light Sensor.

The device supports various audio formats such as MP3, M4A, 3GA, AAC, OGG, OGA, WAV, WMA, AMR, AWB, FLAC, MID, MIDI, XMF, MXMF, IMY, RTTTL, RTX, and OTA. It also supports a bevy of video formats including MP4, M4V, 3GP, 3G2, WMV, ASF, AVI, FLV, MKV, and WEBM.

In comparison to the S7 series, the camera remains a striking similarity, both housing 12-megapixel Dual pixel cameras. However, the Galaxy Note 7 offers dust and water resistance, surviving in up to 5 feet of water for about 30 minutes. One of its unique features is the iris sensor, used for unlocking the device and protecting data, although some eyeglasses may impede its readings.

As another security layer, Samsung integrated a secure folder for storing files and app sessions. The phone can also stream HDR videos, and Samsung Pay will also be incorporated, ensuring a seamless payment process for users.

The Note 7’s S Pen differentiates from its predecessor as it is now water-resistant. Samsung rightly claims that you can write underwater using the water-resistant pen on the Note 7, quite an exciting feature for users seeking a robust phone. The S Pen also enables users to instantly jot down notes, draw, edit memos, and share GIF animations with Smart Select, along with other new Air Command functions.

While the launch event in New York might not have been teeming with attendees, the device certainly merits consideration. Available from the 19th of the month, the default variant offers 64GB storage with an option to expand to 256GB using a microSD. The price has yet to be released, but we’ll update you as soon as we hear more.
