There Are Now Over 600 Million Windows 10 Powered Devices

Microsoft provided their second Windows statistics announcing that 600 million devices are now running on the company’s latest operating system. The devices includes PCs, tablets, Xbox One consoles, HoloLens headsets, and even Surface Hub devices and phones. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella who revealed these figures during the company’s annual shareholder meeting held yesterday.

Back in May, Microsoft revealed its 500 million figure and the company confirmed that it has given up on its Windows phone contributing little amount of installation to its 1 billion devices target running on Windows 10 in 2018 as originally planned but the software giant eventually gave up its ambition on hitting that target and also admitted that it will take longer to hit the 1 billion as the growth has been delayed ever since Microsoft withdrew its free Windows 10 update offer.

After hitting the 600 million milestone this month, it shows that the software giant could very well be within striking distance of its one billion target. This is because, earlier in the year Microsoft was targeting 550 million active Windows 10 devices by the end of June and 575 million by the end of September and hitting 600 million this month fits their new plan to hit their targeted goal but is still unknown at this time if they will ever meet the target by the end of 2018.

But global PC sales would be a huge determining factor. Maybe as PC shipments globally by the top players continues to improve well in 2018, this could very be the one billion Windows 10 year after all. Microsoft heavily relies on manufacturers to licence more of its Windows operating system in order to meet such self-imposed targets even though sales of its Surface laptops continue to lag behind major players in the world.

According to research company IDC, Worldwide shipments of traditional PCs (desktop, notebook, and workstation) totalled 67.2 million units in the third quarter of 2017 (3Q17), which translates into a slight year-over-year decline of 0.5%, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker. The results were better than projections of a 1.4% decline.
