iOS 10 Surpasses Predecessor with 79% Adoption Rate Among Active iOS Devices

Since its public release last September, iOS 10 has rapidly climbed the ladder of success. Recent reports indicate that a staggering 79 percent of currently active iOS devices now operate on the latest mobile operating system (OS). This level of adoption overshadows the previous record held by its predecessor, iOS 9, which managed to reach 77 percent of active devices at its peak.

The comparatively minimal adoption of earlier iOS versions paints a stark contrast to iOS 10’s meteoric success, with 16 percent of devices running iOS 9 and a mere 5 percent of devices operating on earlier versions.

This data suggests that users find the updated OS more user-friendly, favoring its features and usability over earlier iterations. The 79 percent adoption rate reflects both widespread approval and rapid adoption among consumers.

iOS’s rate of adoption significantly outpace its main competitor – Android, as reported by MacRumors. Despite being released six months earlier, Nougat, Android’s latest version, is only installed on just 1.2% of active Android devices. Contrastingly, Android Lollipop, which was released in November 2014, is still installed on 32.9% of active devices.

These statistics give iOS the advantage, primarily because Apple controls both hardware and software. One attributing factor could be Apple’s proactive notifications to users about software updates, a feature not commonly found in Android devices.

By continuing its tradition of seamless integration between device hardware and OS, Apple ensures the latest features are expediently available to its users. It’s these strategies that help maintain iOS’s dominate presence and reputation in the mobile realm.
