9mobile Crashes Local And International Call Rates To Take On Competitors

It’s no longer news that more people have opted to work remotely and access information from home since the COVID-19 pandemic forced many to do this either in form of compulsory total or partial lockdowns. However, this has got many complaining about the exorbitant rates at which service providers are charging customers. To play safe and stay ahead of the game, 9mobile, relaunched its Morelife Complete package to make customers reach out to friends and their loved ones at very affordable costs.

If you are a 9mobile subscriber, this might be what you have been waiting for. This package allows subscribers to make calls at 11k/s to all networks in Nigeria, including top international destinations including UK, USA, Canada, China, Norway, Denmark, Puerto Rico and Bangladesh. For international calls, however, it comes with a daily access fee of N5 billed on the first call of the day.

If you are conversant with charging rates of service providers, quite obvious is the fact that this model is used by its contenders, MTN for its Pulse plan.

A mouth-watery offer by this package allows subscribers to further enjoy an exclusive data of a whopping 11GB for N3000, alongside other exciting benefits.

This might come as relief to many who cannot visit friends and loved ones due to the pandemic which has caused restrictions of foreign flights. At the local level, many people are yet to resume hangouts and courtesy visits to friends and families. No wonder there had been an uproar about the exorbitant charges for data and call rates.

The marketing Acting Director at 9mobile said the new plan came just in time to complement the pandemic crisis. He said:

“We are responding to our customers’ need to stay in touch with their friends and family both locally and around the world without worrying about expensive call rates especially with the varying degrees of physical and social restrictions in place at this time.”

Since the pandemic which has claimed thousands of lives globally, many countries have forcefully imposed quarantines, entry bans and other restrictions for citizens and of recent travelers to the most affected areas. Together with the decreased willingness to travel and go visiting at the local level, service providers have experienced a boom in their businesses as people naturally spend more time for calls and on the internet making video calls to their friends and loved ones.

9mobile has proven to be a resilient telecommunications firm since it took ownership from the embattled Etisalat. Etisalat was enmeshed in a financial crisis after its inability to pay back huge loans it acquired from a consortium of thirteen banks, it announced in 2017 that new investors were taking over. In the same year, the Chief Executive Officer, Taiwo Oluboyede had noted that customers were put off by the firm’s high chargers for call rates and data expenses, but that their quality services stood them out.

Nevertheless, it’s a different ball game today. The telecom is set to attract mor subscribers to effectively contend with competitors like MTN and Airtel and Globacom by slashing call rates and internet charges.
