Airtel Nigeria’s social media management team seems discombobulated in fear of a possible cyberattack in line with the recent cybersecurity relapses in the national digital sector. For a second, Airtel Nigeria panicked as its Instagram account credentials denied log-in access.

Airtel reported the Instagram malfunction via a tweet on the bird app creating awareness among its users or followers on other social media. Airtel was not patient enough to confirm if the Instagram account log-in error was an actual cyberattack or omitted log-in details. Still, the telecom company warned its users about contacting Airtel Nigeria via Instagram.

“We’re having a slight challenge accessing our Instagram account and we’re earnestly working to get it resolved.” Airtel’s tweet immediately the telecom noticed the log-in error. “In the interim, do reach out to us on Twitter, Facebook, and our email channel customercare@ng.airtel.com for prompt resolution.”

This tweet was deleted by the telecom company for its incompetence to identify an actual hack rather than horrifying the Nigerian technology and cybersecurity ecosystem. Airtel’s hack paranoia depicts the telecom company is cautious about its operations. Airtel’s paranoia management secures its telecom service from experiencing a related scenario where anonymous hackers crashed St Nicholas Hospital’s Facebook page and renamed DODO.

Then again, the Bet9ja gaming site got hacked but the perpetrators failed to steal users’ assets. Although the Russian cyber gang called Blackcat or ALPHv demanded ransomware under unfavourable conditions — which Bet9ja declined because Blackcat stole no vital information from the gaming site to leverage for ransomware.

Airtel Nigeria is unapologetic if its security alert was a false breach. The telecom company aims to remind its Airtel community about possible cyberattacks prone to subscribers’ unsecured identity modules. Airtel Nigeria is relatively encouraging Nigerians to enroll in the NIN-SIM configuration in adherence to the FG social security campaign.
