Almentor was founded in 2016 by Dr. Ihab Fikry and Ibrahim Kamel and is an online learning platform for Arabic speakers. The platform provides an e-learning platform for people who wish to learn Arabic and it also compensates for the lack of online learning options for people who want to learn Arabic.

It is quite a Herculean task finding daily essential content that are designed specifically for Arabic speakers, and this is one of the voids that Almentor has been filling since it started in 2016.

Almentor, in 2016, closed a seed round with $3.5 million and in 2019 raised the sum of $4.5 million in a Series A round that was led by Sawari Ventures.

Almentor works in partnership with experts and educators, and leaders in various fields and provides users with talks and topics that cut across fields of science, technology, digital media, communication, entrepreneurship, humanities, health, business, lifestyle, management, drama, corporate communication and sports.

In a Series B round led by Partech, the company has raised the sum of $6.5 million and in total has raised $14.5 million so far. Other notable companies that participated in the round include Sango Capital, Egypt ventures and Sawari Ventures which led the 2016 round.

“The vision and reason behind starting Almentor is we understand that in our region of more than 100 million people, of which 90 percent cannot properly learn with any other language other than Arabic. So we wanted to have a cutting-edge state of the art platform that will change people’s ideology and help them be objective, and focus based on topics that can be taught as prodigious learning”, co-founder – Dr. Ihab Fikry said to Techcrunch while talking about the recently concluded round.

The company plans to use the funds raised to improve content production and quality, and educate people in the Middle East and North Africa region on why they should patronize the platform.

Speaking for Partech, Cyril Collon; a general partner said that “Since our first interaction, we have been very impressed by Ihab and Ibrahim, two fantastic mission-driven entrepreneurs who have been executing on a bold vision since 2016, and who built the leading Arabic self-learning go-to content provider in the Middle East and Africa. We are looking forward to supporting the company in its next phase of growth to serve the 430 million Arabic-speaking population and expand access to the on-demand cutting-edge personal learning and development options”

Still speaking on the funding round, co-founder Dr. Ihab Fikry said that “We are now leading the continuous video learning industry in the Arab region, and we have a responsibility that goes beyond our responsibility for Almentor. Our responsibility now is to work unceasingly to improve the industry as a whole in the Arab region, and this can only be achieved through gaining the confidence of the Arab learners in the value, professionalism and impartiality of the content provided by the platform and working in line with global learning trends”
