Las Vegas – Circa June 2019: Amazon.com Fulfillment Center. Amazon is the Largest Internet-Based Retailer in the United States

e-Commerce giant Amazon announced on Wednesday that it will be setting up a logistics base in Turkey so as to be able to meet the rising demand. The company will be making an investment of more than $100 million to build the logistics base in Turkey.

According to details the company shared, the facility is expected to create at least a thousand jobs in its first year of opening, while providing support for the domestic and export operations of small and medium businesses using its platform to sell their products. The company is scheduling opening the facility in the last quarter of the year.

The company’s Turkey wing which came into service in 2018 has employed over 500 people and continued to offer quality products to customers as well as fast delivery services at affordable rates.

Amazon says the new logistics base will be established in Tulza district of Istanbul and operations will include engineering, human resources, accounting, operations and IT. It also added that recruitments for customer service and logistics teams will take place imminently adding that the company will continue to work with partners that already provide delivery services.

Amazon is known to provide an enabling environment for small and medium businesses. The company has provided more than 250 new services and applications with an investment of more than $18 billion to increase the efficiency and profitability of its affiliates.

Speaking on the latest announcement President of the Presidency Investment Office Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu said that “this investment is very important for our e-commerce sector,” while emphasizing the country’s position as a regional centre for the activities of foreign investors cutting across fields including logistics, training and management, production, research and development, etc. “It will be Amazon’s first logistics base in Turkey. The investment decision, which prioritizes sustainability and green transformation and creates employment, was a concrete example of these discourses. This investment is very important for our ever-developing logistics infrastructure to further strengthen our e-commerce sector, which has gained great momentum in recent years, in the domestic and export markets. As the Presidential Investment Office, we are pleased to share this investment decision with the public, which we have followed since the beginning of the process and supported by working closely with the Amazon team both in the field and in the bureaucratic processes,” he added.

“We are happy to open our first logistics base in Turkey in Istanbul. We would like to underline our trust in Turkey while we are still alive,” Amazon Europe Vice President of Operations Stefano Perego said.
