It is anticipated that some Google Pixel devices may receive the Android 16 upgrade early.

Starting on Wednesday, June 11, a limited number of devices will receive the Android 16 upgrade. Compared to prior years, Google is releasing the stable version of its upcoming operating system early. The tech behemoth from Mountain View is launching the Material 3 Expressive design this year, along with enhancements to Quick Settings and Live Activities, a new battery health monitoring system, and more. The majority of these features, however, will be released a few months after Android 16’s initial deployment.

The official account of Android Developers verified the release date of the Android 16 upgrade in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. On Wednesday, it will be released as a free over-the-air (OTA) software update for devices that qualify. Since the tech giant has not specified a release date, different time zones will probably cause the update to arrive at different times in different locations.

It is anticipated that the Android 16 upgrade would initially only be accessible on Pixel smartphones that are compatible. Other companies will either directly distribute the update or apply a custom operating system skin to it. Although the complete list of compatible devices is not yet public, certain smartphones are guaranteed to receive the update depending on the manufacturer’s specified number of update cycles. The following is the list:

As previously said, no significant updates are anticipated with Wednesday’s anticipated stable release of Android 16. However, the Android 16 QPR1 stable version, which will be released in the next months, will include a revised UI along with some significant new features.

Google’s next version of the open-source Material You design language system for Android, the Material 3 Expressive UI, will be available with the Android 16 QPR1 update. A vibrant colour palette, smoother animation, delicate haptics, and more are features of the revamp. Additionally, the updated user interface can adapt in real time and is more responsive to user interaction.

A makeover of Quick Settings is also anticipated. It is claimed that the icon tiles can be shrunk to half their original size and that the Brightness Slider will take on a new rectangular appearance. It is also said that these icons have a reset button and are categorized into several groups.

The Android 16 QPR1 update also adds Live Activities to the notification shade, status bar, and lock screen. It will now be simpler to keep an eye on the function that allows users to track live events like deliveries and sporting events. A battery health monitoring mechanism that tracks battery health and capacity is also being included by the latest Android release.

In addition, Google is incorporating a number of new security-focused features into Android 16 to assist users in safeguarding their data and devices against fraud and theft.
