Apple Adopts Android Features like Call Screening and Live Text in iOS 26

Apple’s WWDC 2025 keynote raised eyebrows today as several new iOS 26 features closely mirrored capabilities long available on Android devices, notably Google’s Pixel series. Industry experts quickly highlighted that features like automatic call screening, Hold Assist, Live Translation, and even camera UI tweaks bear striking resemblance to tools Android users have enjoyed for years.

In iOS 26, “Hold Assist” silences hold music until a real person answers—something Android users have had since 2020. Automatic call screening now sends unknown callers to voicemail by default, again contextualizing the borrowed idea. Apple also introduced visual search suggestions on screenshots, mimicking Google Lens and Samsung’s Circle to Search, alongside one-tap camera mode switching echoing Pixel’s interface .

Apple refined these features to fit within its premium design ethos. Screenshots now prompt contextual action suggestions specifically tuned for iOS workflows. Call polite, but apple-like gestures round out the experience, subtly differentiating the implementations despite the parallels .

Apple’s latest software isn’t just advancing—it’s responding. As pressure rises in the AI and UI wars, Apple is rapidly closing the gap on Android’s lead in everyday features. But what counts most isn’t originality—it’s optimization. By integrating familiar tools into a unified “Liquid Glass” ecosystem, Apple hopes to win over users with cohesiveness, polished design, and seamless inter-device compatibility.

Whether this feels like innovation—or imitation—will shape perceptions of iOS 26’s value. Developers and consumers should watch closely: as Apple intelligently refines existing ideas, users may begin to expect ergonomics, utility, and privacy together—not just novelty. Will Apple’s refined execution silence the critics or ignite a deeper innovation arms race? Fall 2025 will tell.
