At the “Peek Performance” event Apple introduces fans to a new external display device called the Studio Display. This display was designed for the purpose of being an ideal companion for the company’s Mac lineup — one of which includes the brand new Mac Studio powered by Apple’s owned M1 chip, it was unveiled at the Peek Performance event as well. This is the first Apple monitor targeted at prosumers in many years.

With a screen size of 27-inch and the ability to reach up to 600 nits of brightness, as well as a 5K retina display screen. This device can support P3 wide colour, and also works with macOS’s TrueTone feature. Just like a big, beautiful window that introduces you to a new world, the Studio Display draws you in from the moment you turn it on. It has a slim, all-screen design and is packed with a phenomenal set of features so everything you do springs to life with gorgeous colour and spectacular detail. The specs of the new Studio Display have similarities to the panel from the 27-inch iMac which are reportedly now discontinued. Above the Studio Display’s screen is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera for video conference purposes.

The 12MP Ultra-Wide camera also features Center Stage that comes to Mac for the first time. The Center Stage is responsible for keeping you centred in the frame as you move around, making video calls more engaging. When others join or leave the call, Center Stage has been programmed to expand or zooms in just to ensure nothing is missed out. It also works beautifully with your go‑to video conferencing apps, FaceTime, Webex, Zoom and their likes

Preorders for the Studio Display have started at $1,599 but would be available on March 18th. Users can purchase Studio Display with an optional matte nano-texture glass finish for an extra $300, and a variety of stand and mounting solutions.  One thing about the Studio Display’s hardware that some people might find disappointing is that Apple stuck with a traditional 60Hz refresh rate at a time when the company’s iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max, iPad Pro, and 2021 MacBook Pros can all reach up to 120Hz.

On the back of this device, users will find three USB-C ports and a single Thunderbolt 3 port, with the latter supporting up to 96W pass-through charging. Well if you ask around that’s enough to juice up all of Apple’s laptops including last year’s 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. The Studio Display comes equipped with a powerful six-speaker system, this system consists of four woofers and two tweeters. The display device is powered by Apple’s A13 chip which guarantees optimized performance with Apple’s Mac desktops and laptops. It houses other software features like Spatial Audio and “Hey Siri” voice commands that can be activated through the built-in three-mic array.

The Spatial Audio of the new display device immerses you in sound every moment. It delivers that feeling of having your own personal movie theatre or concert hall. When you’re playing music or video with Dolby Atmos, the A13 Bionic chip works with all six speakers to create that sophisticated, cinematic soundstage. The studio-quality three-mic array of the Studio Display helps you come through loud and clear just the way you like it while making video calls and voice recordings. And with its directional beamforming abilities, everyone hears you — not what’s going on around you.
