Apple Music Accumulates Over 30 Million Subscribers, Ramps Up Competition with Spotify

Apple Music’s subscriber count has now surpassed the 30 million mark, according to a recent report from Billboard. With a growth rate showing a surge of 10 million subscribers in December of last year and an additional 3 million this past June following the notable WWDC conference, the music streaming giant is actively breaking new ground. Nevertheless, this growth is perceived as rather modest when placed beside the impressive numbers boasted by its biggest competitor, Spotify.

Despite their commendable growth, Apple Music seems to be grappling with the challenge of keeping pace with Spotify’s meteoric subscription rate, which adds roughly 15 million subscribers to its platform annually, hitting almost 20 million within just 2 years of its launch.

Comprehending this crucial challenge, Jimmy Iovine, the mastermind behind Apple Music, acknowledges that the platform has a significant amount of ground to cover in the highly competitive music streaming market. He expressed to Billboard that simply “adding millions of subscribers and boosting the older catalogue numbers, is not the end game. These figures alone cannot ensure sustainability, nor could they perpetuate growth.” He emphasized on the need to consistently deliver value and keep users abreast of the freshest music.

Additionally, Iovine assured that the company is planning to introduce new features aimed at cultivating a better and closer relationship between music artists and their fans. These features include the addition of exclusive documentaries, top-notch advertisement campaigns, and live-streamed interviews with popular artists. He acknowledged that these additional services may not necessarily guarantee enhanced growth, but the company is willing to invest in these strategies and assess their impacts before expanding on the service offerings.

In order to match up to Spotify’s impressive 10 million monthly subscribers or potentially surpass that mark, Apple Music needs to make significant strides and encourage more users to partake in their unique music service, with the intention to offer an unrivaled streaming experience.

On the brighter side, Apple Music, being a rather recent entrant in the world of music streaming since its launch in 2015, has managed to amass about 30 million subscribers. Even though it may seem that the platform is growing at a steady clip, there is a consensus that more strategic efforts are needed for Apple Music to truly dominate the fiercely competitive music streaming industry.
