Apple To Let Developers Charge Up to $10,000 For Apps

Apple now lets developers charge as much as $10,000 for an app - KTVZ

According to recent reports, Apple is introducing 700 new price tiers for programs in its App Store, with the lowest tier starting at $0.29 and the highest at $10,000, however, the extremely high tier is only available “upon request” by developers.

The modifications come after a $100 million settlement with developers in August 2021, as part of which the company guaranteed, among other things, to increase the price points developers can provide to customers. The App Store will become an even better economic prospect for developers, according to what Apple announced at the time.

Additionally, Apple’s changes also come at a time when Apple is under fire for the limitations and costs it imposes on developers, notably the 30% commission it charges for some of the programs available in its app store.

Even though Apple last year made it simpler for some media companies to avoid the charges, Elon Musk, Epic Games, and other others have continued to criticize the company over the cut it takes.

Apple announced on Tuesday that in addition to the new price points it’s rolling out, it is also releasing new tools that will make it simpler for developers to establish prices depending on a country or region, handle changes in foreign exchange rates, and do lots more.

It stated that the new pricing improvements would be made accessible for apps that offer automatically renewing subscriptions beginning on Tuesday and for additional apps and in-app purchases starting next spring.

The Apple App Store currently offers 900 distinct price tiers for apps. From the lowest price of $0.29 up to $10, every $0.10 mark is now available, and between $10 and $50, every $0.50.

Although it might be surprising to see an app listed on the App Store with a $10,000 worth of price tag, however, it’s not uncommon to see expensive apps in the store. Some apps cost $999.99 right now, a typical example is the piano tuning program Cyber Tuner. The very high-end pricing is available to developers “upon request” only
