Some news for every AppleTV users as Google Cast now support by the Android version of the Apple TV software, enabling users to stream content straight from their Android devices to Google TV, Chromecast, and compatible smart TVs.

The Google Cast compatibility was finally added to the Apple TV app on Android phones and tablets today, filling a significant capability gap since the app’s launch earlier this year. When the Android version of Apple’s streaming software was first released for Android in February 2025, had been lacking a crucial function and there was no significant capability which therefore created a gap and this is now fixed.

This intentional moves comes just a few weeks after Netflix stopped supporting casting from phones on the majority of smart TVs, requiring users to stream via the built-in apps.

Also with Google Cast support, Android users will now find it simpler to stream Apple TV content on their TV platform freely. Report gathered is that, Google Cast is only available on the Android version of Apple TV, not the iOS version, even with this upgrade if and only if users feel to upgrade. Similarly, AirPlay is still not supported by the Android version.

The Google Cast icon shows in the upper-right corner to the left of your profile avatar after the update. This opens a bottom pane called “Cast To,” which Apple has styled to match the rest of the app’s visual style.

The button next to mute is also accessible in the full screen player. Casting gives you a great mini player with chronology, device, and playback details. This is followed by a 10-second rewind and play/pause on the right.

This business advises that users should make sure the Apple TV app is fully updated to version 2.2 if your Android device isn’t displaying an option to use Google Cast. The cast button should be visible in the upper right corner of your screen, adjacent to the mute button on the “play” screen for movies and television shows, and in the pause overlay for material that is now playing.

Tapping opens a full screen portrait player with big play/pause and rewind/forward controls, as well as a scrubber, audio, and subtitles. The movie or television show’s poster with a swipe down to get back home is the cover art.

At launch, Google Cast was noticeably unsupported; however, since February, updates have added new episode notifications.

Apple also made a modest adjustment to the home screen icon today, making it slightly smaller inside the circle. The Play Store is currently releasing Apple TV for Android version 2.2.
