Apple Unveils MacBook Air with M5 Starting at $999

Apple has introduced its latest MacBook Air line-up powered by the new M5 chip, bringing faster performance, bigger base storage, and improved wireless connectivity to the company’s most popular laptop.

The updated MacBook Air starts at $999 and begins shipping in March, marking a significant boost over the previous generation’s specs while maintaining the thin and light design that made the Air series iconic.

At the heart of the new line-up is Apple’s M5 chip, which offers substantial performance improvements over the M4-powered models. The M5 integrates a more powerful CPU and GPU while maintaining excellent energy efficiency, catering to everyday and creative workflows alike.

According to Apple, the M5 chip delivers faster app launches, smoother multitasking, and better graphics performance for video editing, photo workflows, and lightweight creative tasks.

Apple has doubled the base storage configuration compared to previous models, starting at 256GB for the entry-level SKU and offering options up to 2TB. Unified memory configurations go up to 24GB, giving users more room to work with larger apps and multiple concurrent workflows without slowdown.

The new MacBook Air includes Apple’s N1 wireless chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7 support for faster wireless speeds and improved network performance. The Wi-Fi 7 upgrade promises lower latency and higher throughput, especially in crowded or congested network environments.

Bluetooth connectivity has also been updated, and the laptop supports fast charging over USB-C.

The MacBook Air retains its slim profile and lightweight design while incorporating a bright 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with wide colour and True Tone technology. Battery life remains strong, with Apple claiming all-day usage under typical tasks.

Audio quality has been enhanced with improved speakers and support for Spatial Audio for richer sound during videos, music, and calls.

Pricing and availability

The new MacBook Air starts at $999 for the base model, with configurations varying by storage and memory options. Pre-orders open immediately, and shipping begins later in March.

Available colour options include Starlight, Space Gray, Silver, and Blue.
