Apple Watch Ultra 3 Brings 42-Hour Battery and New Health Alerts

Apple didn’t just refresh its smartwatch this year it redefined what it can do. The Apple Watch Ultra 3, unveiled at yesterday’s event, declares itself a trustworthy companion for life off the grid, combining long battery life, emergency-ready satellite connectivity, and smart health tools beyond anything we’ve seen before.

What stands out most is its built-in two-way satellite communication. No longer tethered to Wi-Fi or cellular, Ultra 3 can connect with emergency services, send messages, or share your location even on remote trails or mountaintops. This isn’t limited to SOS: Apple’s Find My via Satellite lets you ping your location every 15 minutes to trusted contacts, and encrypted messaging means you can send texts and emojis even without a phone. The system automatically boosts antenna reception using smart algorithms when you’re off grid.

Beyond connectivity, Apple leapfrogs its own standards with a bold 42-hour battery life, stretching to an astounding 72 hours in Low Power Mode. Even during intense outdoor training, Ultra 3 delivers around 20 hours with full GPS and heart-rate tracking. Pair that with the new LTPO3 OLED display, which is the brightest and largest ever on an Apple Watch with thinner bezels and ultra-efficient power usage. Now the always-on screen updates every second, so you can actually watch the seconds tick.

But Ultra 3 isn’t just for explorers. It steps firmly into health territory with hypertension notifications, a first in the Apple Watch line. This feature analyses subtle vascular patterns to catch signs of chronic high blood pressure, a critical health concern for over a billion people. It also includes a Sleep Score, giving users night-by-night feedback on sleep quality.

The health upgrades are available instantly via watchOS 26, landing September 15—not just on Ultra 3, but also on Series 9, Series 11, and SE 3. Apple is blanketing its wearable ecosystem with these new insights, no new hardware required.

Adventure features stand out, too: dual-frequency GPS, Workout Buddy powered by Apple Intelligence, custom multisport tracking, offline maps, waypoints, and even way smarter dive support via the Oceanic+ app. Emergency response is robust too; Crash Detection, a loud siren, flashlight, and Medical ID are all in the toolbox.

In terms of build, Ultra 3 stays tough and responsible. It’s available in natural and black titanium made with 40% recycled materials and assembled using 100% renewable energy. The new bands, including a reflective Trail Loop and Hermès options, make it both rugged and stylish.

Preorders are live today, with the Ultra 3 starting at $799, arriving in stores and on wrists September 19.

Should you buy it ?

  • This is Apple’s most capable watch ever one built not for your wrist, but for wild places.
  • Health tools like hypertension alerts and sleep scoring bring serious wellness to the forefront.
  • With satellite as standard, Apple is making overdue strides toward independent, no-phone-needed wearables.

Whether you’re a mountaintop skier, night-runner, or simply someone who appreciates being untethered Ultra 3 is built for you.
