With increased resource being put into research around health and improving lives for the better, healthcare services continue to be put under increasing pressure. This, as well as higher expectations and efficient access to healthcare provision, costs are beginning to become sky high and alternative resources are becoming stretched. One resource that is being applied to healthcare delivery is Augmented Reality (AR) as the healthcare industry look to match this increasing demand for their services. The ability it provides to combine technology with sensory experience is truly incredible, and it’s transforming the face of the healthcare industry for the better. Here’s how.

Improving Training

The biggest issue for the healthcare industry is not having enough resources to deal with the needs of patients, with a lack of doctors and professionals to cater for all. The long terms solution would be to train more medical professionals through AR, providing an engaging and educational experience which can determine whether complex concepts can be grasped in a high-pressure situation that couldn’t be recreated through traditional training.

Providing Patients With Control

Another benefit of AR in the healthcare industry is the development of apps and devices that empower patients to care of their own health and be more proactive with their care. For example, the EyeDecide app which helps to educate users on the structure of the eyeball, but also offers visual simulations on eye conditions. Users are able to self-diagnose themselves by comparing their own experience with the simulations outlined in the app. They also have the benefit of locating local eye specialists in their area.

Delivery Of Treatment

Technology has provided plenty of examples of how it’s benefitted industries by making processes more efficient and performing particular roles that can enhance results for the better. AR in healthcare is also helping with treating patients singlehandedly. It’s being used in rehabilitation and physiotherapy in particular. The idea is that digital demonstrations can be created that can help a patient duplicate the motion that will benefit their rehabilitation. Studies conducted using the technology have shown that fine motor skills developed much faster in patients through AR compared to traditional methods.

Accessibility Increase

Traditionally, the access to healthcare information is limited to face-to-face meetings between patient and practitioner. This causes long queues and delays. Through AR technology, these limitations are being removed and medical consultations are being conducted remotely via smart devices and through the internet. Proximie is an app that helps to maintain the quality of performing surgical procedures whilst providing the efficiency to do it through the web. The tools and guides allow the specialist to collaborate with a colleague during the performance of a surgical procedure, like a breast augmentation manchester based, remotely from a different place in the world.

The thought of technology being embedded in an industry that relies on trust on expertise can appear daunting, but the benefits and progression that it has proven so far shows that one would only be too naive to not embrace a technology that has showcased its worth. In years to come, it’s likely that AR will be at the forefront of the industry, as it will with many other industries too.
