Beta Venture Leads Funding Round As Edves Secures Additional $575K, Seeks To Promote Enhance Academic Activities Online

Edves — a Nigerian-based education technology startup — recently announced securing an additional $575,000 in seed funding led by Beta Ventures. This funding is part of the educational company’s scheme to enhance its quality of products and promote digital learning.

Although Beta Venture led the oversubscribed funding, other investors participated including Launch Africa, Future Africa, and Chinook Capital.

According to the publication released by the startup, the funding will enable it to provide greater quality products by developing new content to satisfy consumer needs in the country and other parts of Africa.

The startup — a cloud-based school management software platform — was founded by Dimeji Falana and Dare Adebayo. It offers a wide range of educational services which includes

  • School report card management systems
  • Student admission
  • Payments of educational fees
  • Digital Learning

Through the Edves platform, parents and guardians will be able to view certain details about their wards and also make academic payments with relative ease. The startup also considered parents and guardians who are not used to tech systems by simplifying how they can get information about their wards. These include getting information through text messages, emails, the Edves app and on the Edves website.

The startup plans to make interactions between parents, teachers and administrators relatively easy. As such, it will become easier to examine a ward’s progress, analyze their performances, and track their academic records.

Recall that in 2018, Edves had announced a funding round of $120,000 from CcHub’s Growth Capital and Chinook Capital. Although founded in Nigeria, the start-up has — through its platform — has helped schools across Africa move academic activities online. Countries such as Zimbabwe and Ghana have schools using the Edves platform. The company has more than 790 schools that have accessed its platform.

“We have all seen that Edves does not fail to deliver its promises in terms of digitalisation of learning systems in educational institutions across Africa. We are extremely happy to be part of this chapter as Edves enhance their product performance and moves to higher levels,” Ovo Emorhokpor — Spokesperson for Beta Ventures — said at a briefing.
