BitTorrent launched BitTorrent Live yesterday which is actually a multichannel, live and linear video streaming platform spanning news, sports, music, tech, and youth . With this app, BitTorrent aims to create its own form of live running on internet protocols. IPTV (internet protocol TV) is on the rise but with many of them providing video on demand services, BitTorrent Live aims to bring a host of programmes together to make this happen first on Apple TV and later on iOS, Android and Windows. The new BitTorrent Live is to be powered by BitTorrent’s proprietary and patented peer-to-peer live streaming protocol with the ability to allow large audiences to view live video with sub 10-second latency and without the need for an expensive CDN or pre-provisioning.

Hundreds of millions of people use the BitTorrent peer to peer (P2P) services monthly for downloads and while much of that traffic has been dropping as competition heats up but the company wants to convert these people to “uploaders” as well. Every viewer in essence will eventually be a broadcaster as well.
Last year, BitTorrent added a whisperer feature to its P2P chat service. Whisperer does something similar to what Snapchat does such that messages are deleted from your devices after 25 seconds of reading them.
Right now you can add your email to the newsletter box on their website to be informed when they finally launch the service.
