Onward Mobility, current owners of the BlackBerry brand is making plans for Blackberry loyalists to witness the revival of BlackBerry phones in the smartphone market. Blackberry fans received this update after a long time since a BlackBerry-branded phone was last launched. The last being the BlackBerry KEY2 LE which was launched in some markets in 2018. Onward Mobility in a post reveals plans are in motion to give her loyalists of yesteryears something to look forward to. The post on the brand’s parent company’s website suggests a brand new Blackberry smartphone is in development. Indicators reveal soon a 5G smartphone would be released.

Since August 2020 when the US-based Tech Company- Onward Mobility acquired the rights for the BlackBerry brand, fans have received promises. In other to keep the expectations of her fans alive, Onward Mobility has built a pre-commitment program for its upcoming device (via XDA Developers). This pre-commitment program suggesting a new handset is actually a subscription list for partners and fans, who will be able to receive “product, feature, and availability updates” before the general public. It seeks to engage customers and industry experts to understand what they’d want in a smartphone. Onward Mobility says that the Program is to expand its engagement with customers interested in purchasing new smartphones. The landing page on Onward Mobility’s website also mentioned that subscribed individuals and organizations can provide direct input and influence features and functionality of the new handset. The site also promises exclusive updates on the phone, in addition to pre-order options available sometime in the future.

Although there is no specific reference to what the “new and innovative BlackBerry 5G smartphones” would look like or when we could see it at the earliest. Speculators say it’s entirely possible that Onward Mobility’s 5G-ready BlackBerry phone will be an Android device capable of doing as much as the hottest brands around today. However, it has to be something a step away from “enterprise focus”. A smartphone capable of appealing to the wider demographic at a competitive price.

On signing up for this pre-commitment program, you’ll be asked few basic questions in which you are required to provide information. Information like your name, email address, and mobile provider. You can also input how many BlackBerry phones you plan to buy, with options ranging from “1-4” to “1000+”. This is a big indication that BlackBerry as a brand wants its ears close to the ground to not just understanding the plight of her fans but also make them part of the new smartphone creation. However, this plays out be rest assured TechBooky is always on the ground to bring you all the juicy tech gist when the new smartphones launch.
