Why We Pulled Down The Videos Of Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro — YouTube

Online video sharing and social media platform
, YouTube on Wednesday gave reasons why it deleted from its page the videos of President JairBolsonaro.

According to YouTube, the video files were removed for spreading misinformation about the Coronavirus pandemic, making it the third social media platform to remove Bolsanoro’s content over misinformation on COVID-19.

In a Press Release, YouTube affirmed that the decision to  delete the videos was taken after a careful review of the shared content, and would not be affected by the consideration of the Brazilian President status as a political figure of repute, and his political ideology.

The Brazilian leader, famed for his controversial comments on the Coronavirus disease has been widely berated for railing against lockdowns, promoting miracle cures for the virus, antagonizing vaccine cures and speaking against the use of face masks.

YouTube in a statement said:

”Our rules do not allow content that states that hydroxychloroquine and/or ivermectin are effective in treating or preventing COVID-19, that states there is a cure for the disease, or says that masks do not work to prevent the spread of the virus”.

The office of the Brazilian President has not yet made an official announcement on the issue.

It would be recalled that Social Media giants, Twitter and Facebook had last year taken down the videos of Bolsonaro after they claimed it breached their terms of use, when he made pronouncements that seem to negate the recommendations of global public health experts.
