Breaking: Apple Announces iOS 26 ‘Liquid Glass’ with Major Redesign

Apple has just lifted the curtain on iOS 26, marking a dramatic leap forward in interface design and on-device smarts. Dubbed “Liquid Glass,” the new visual language brings translucent panels, softly curved icons and floating menus—an aesthetic echoing the visionOS interface—signalling Apple’s longest-overdue design refresh since iOS 7.

But this is far more than a coat of fresh paint. Under the new aesthetic, Apple is rolling out deeper AI-driven enhancements, ranging from personalized battery optimization to intelligent camera features and emoji generation with the new “Genmoji” tool. Users will also see improvements in built-in apps: Messages now supports polls and live translation, Safari and Camera gain refined controls, and CarPlay gets a sleek, updated interface .

As expected, Apple is realigning its versioning to match the calendar year—iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26 and visionOS 26—and previewing deep collaboration among systems . Meanwhile, Siri and Apple Intelligence remain a work in progress, with Apple taking a more cautious approach compared to last year’s bold promises .

Why it matters: This is Apple’s boldest UI overhaul in over a decade—a deliberate move to unify design across devices and set the stage for hardware launches like the iPhone 20th anniversary edition in 2027. But it’s equally strategic on the AI front: Apple is delivering realistic, privacy-respecting features that begin to match what Android and Microsoft have been rolling out—without overpromising .

Stay tuned—more updates coming soon, as the event progresses at Apple Park.
