Character AI is apparently testing two games called Speakeasy and War of Words, which only certain users have access to. These games let players battle against any character, bringing new challenges and techniques for a more interesting experience.
Character AI, the California-based artificial intelligence (AI) platform, is reportedly exploring a new ‘games’ function. According to a new report, the corporation has introduced two word-based games to paid users of the site. While users can develop game-focused AI characters and play a variety of story-driven games, these are reported to be the platform’s first direct additions. These games can supposedly be played against any character of the user’s choice. According to Character AI, the games were created to increase the platform’s engagement.
The new games appear to be focused on Character.AI will position itself as more of an entertainment hotspot than just a place for chatbots. Users have already made their own games, such as text adventures and chess. Designing its own games provides the corporation more flexibility and allows it to leverage its deeper understanding of what AI chatbots can achieve.
According to TechCrunch, the AI character-based platform is presently evaluating the reaction of first-party games. Currently, there are two games: Speakeasy and War of Words. These games are apparently available to both c.ai+ subscribers and a limited number of free users. Notably, Gadgets 360 staff were unable to confirm the presence of the new feature.
Unlike existing games, which allow users to communicate with individual characters to play an interactive game or a story-driven game with role-playing aspects, these first-party games operate differently. These games, rather than being limited to specific chats, can purportedly be played against any of the platform’s characters. The newly launched games also allow users to compete against whatever character they want, according to the publication.
A new controller icon has apparently been added to the side panel of the chatbot interface, and pressing it allows users to play any of the two games. The games are believed to be available on both the platform’s desktop and mobile apps.
According to the magazine, the goal of Speakeasy is to get the character to say a specific word while avoiding using five related terms. For example, the user may have to force Einstein to utter the word “bedroom” rather than “bed, room, sleep, dream, and night”. Every time the game begins, the target and related words are generated at random.
War of Words apparently initiates a random duel in which the player gets five rounds to outwit the AI character. A referee determines the winner after five rounds. Because these games demand a distinct approach to play against different characters, users may encounter a new difficulty with each session.
Meanwhile, the article stated that War of Words sets the user against the AI character in a strategic duel lasting five rounds. At the end of the match, a virtual referee selects the winner based on gaming performance. This dynamic element apparently provides consumers with a unique experience by requiring various methods for each character opponent, giving depth to the entertainment.
According to the journal, a spokeswoman for Character AI told TechCrunch which described the rationale behind the development, saying, “Our goal as an AI entertainment company is to find ways to make the Character AI experience even more fun and entertaining.” We’re currently exploring a feature that allows you to play with your favourite characters while maintaining the immersive experience that consumers like.
While the function is currently under testing, TechCrunch said that it is intended to make the platform more interesting for its users. However, it is still unproven.
Adding AI games may appear to be a little step, but it foreshadows where AI chatbot hubs may go in the future as consumers become tired of the novelty of basic interactions and seek something more engaging with them. Competitive wordplay with AI is far more appealing than simply making casual talk.
The presence of games could also signal a subtle shift in the discourse around Character.AI came after the firm was obligated to deploy a series of additional safety features. These safety improvements were primarily aimed at youngsters, following claims that the platform’s AI chatbots were harming teenagers’ mental health. Instead of ersatz romance, people can now compete against an AI in War of Words.
