OpenAI rolls out personality and response style customization for ChatGPT. New features that seems to be welcoming. This was announced this week as ChatGPT confirmed that they are undergoing a personality upgrade. Last Friday, OpenAI unveiled some new feature that lets users modify the chatbot’s personality and response style. The new feature, called Characteristics, adds a new layer to the chatbot’s personalisation options so that users may adjust how the artificial intelligence (AI) communicates with them. It is a good thing to know that, users can now change the voice and tone of the chatbot using the eight preset personalities that are already available.
In a statement from the official OpenAI account which says that users can “now adjust specific characteristics in ChatGPT, like warmth, enthusiasm, and emoji use” in a post on X (previously known as Twitter). The San Francisco-based AI giant has launched a new initiative that allows users to customise the chatbot for everyday conversations.
Additionally, the company indicates by emphasizing that the ChatGPT’s capabilities won’t be affected if any of the characteristics options are changed. Therefore, just the way the information is delivered will change; its intelligence and accuracy won’t be affected. It will, however, have the most effect when people converse with the AI at a moderate pace.
Users may consider accessing all four choices by accessing the side bar, selecting the Personalisation settings, and then heading to settings (or tapping on their name displayed on the mobile app). Users may also access Warm, Enthusiastic, Headers & lists, and Emoji by navigating to Characteristics within that.
There are three choices and ways to change each option, which are more, default, and less. In an instance where a user to to select the Warm option to change to more, the responses will be nicer and more personable, yet if Warm is changed to less, they will remain more factual and professional. In a similar vein, raising Enthusiasm will make ChatGPT seem more animated and enthusiastic, while lowering it will make it sound calmer and more impartial. Emojis can also be adjusted to more or less settings for user preference. Nevertheless, at this time, there is no way to totally disable emoji.
It is also notable to know that users can choose from eight distinct presets (Default, Professional, Friendly, Candid, Quirky, Efficient, Nerdy, and Cynical) which are available under Base style and tone in the Personalisation menu to significantly alter ChatGPT’s overall demeanour.
Changes to these settings, in contrast to earlier versions may immediately impact all active and new talks. However, if ChatGPT recognises that users are demanding a particular tone during a chat, it may proactively suggest to adjust these settings in certain versions.
These are the traits complement that are currently the personality presets created for particular use cases:
- Friendly: Warm, talkative, and light-hearted.
- Candid: Honest criticism that is straightforward and supportive.
- Effective: Simple, concise, and free of superfluous words.
- Quirky: Funny, creative, and playful.
- Nerdy: Honouring learning and exploration.
- Cynical: dry and sarcastic, offering direct assistance.
This update is a part of the larger GPT-5.1 release, which aims to make the AI more engaging and conversational in response to criticism that the earlier models were “cold” or “sycophantic.”
