ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Teams users are now receiving beta access to Tasks. Thanks to OpenAI.

As part of its expansion into AI agentic capabilities, OpenAI has announced a beta feature called Tasks in ChatGPT, which allows users to plan reminders and repeating activities.

Earlier this week, OpenAI began rolling out this new feature on ChatGPT that allows users to set reminders and actions for the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. The new function, called Tasks, is presently available to all paid customers of the AI platform, and the business has announced intentions to push it out to the free tier later this year. The capability also looks to be OpenAI’s first step toward integrating AI models’ agentic skills into its famous chatbot.

Users can use the new Tasks feature to set one-time reminders or repeating actions such as daily weather updates, news briefings, or periodic online searches. This will be managed using the chat function or a dedicated online interface, and notifications may be configured for desktop, mobile, and web platforms.

OpenAI Releases Tasks Feature for ChatGPT which was seen In a series of posts on X (previously known as Twitter), OpenAI announced Tasks, which are presently in beta for ChatGPT Plus, Teams, and Pro customers. The capability will be made available to users of the AI chatbot’s free tier later this year. Currently, the Tasks page is only accessible through the platform’s web interface.

ChatGPT claims to be able to recommend useful tasks based on your chat history. However, users must expressly authorize any ideas, and scheduled tasks for the Windows app will be available later this quarter.

The firm stated that it plans to use the beta stage to better study how people use the product and tweak it before making it available to free tier consumers. Users also cannot assign tasks using the Advanced Voice Mode.

Tasks are essentially a scheduling feature. To create a new task, users can go to ChatGPT online and input a prompt in the text field or navigate to the Tasks page via the profile menu. These tasks can be set as one-time reminders for a given date and time, or they can be recurring. Users can also instruct the chatbot to complete a task at a predetermined time.

This feature can be utilized to receive a daily news summary in the morning or a motivational message just before your workout. Since prompts may be used to set up Tasks, users can simply input a natural language message such as “Send me a summary of the biggest technology news” of a particular time, 7:30pm, or at a particular day of the weekdays,” and the schedule will be set up.

According to OpenAI, the beta feature will be given out to Plus, Team, and Pro users around the world in the coming days. During this phase, users can issue up to ten active tasks at once.

OpenAI told ReadWrite that the feature can be used to notify people that their passports will expire six months from now. It can also suggest activities for the weekend based on your location and the weather forecast.

The year of the AI agent, as OpenAI debuts Tasks functionality, even though reminders are not groundbreaking, the new Tasks feature lays the groundwork for ChatGPT to gain agent-like capabilities. This will be much more essential when combined with additional aspects such as tool integration or computer use. Plus, with reports of ‘Operator‘ launching this month, 2025 appears to be the year of the AI agent.

Microsoft, one of OpenAI’s primary investors, has already ventured into enterprise AI with Copilot. This would allow businesses to develop their own customized AI virtual staff. It means that firms may create AI chatbots that are specifically designed to communicate with customers or aid internal teams with work.

Both companies are presently battling in the AI agentic field, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman claiming earlier this month that his business understands how to develop artificial generative AI and predicts the emergence of AI agents in the workplace by 2025.
