Eden Life Secures $1.4 Million Seed Funding To Scale Its Home Concierge Services For Busy Africans

To scale its home concierge services, Eden Life has secured $1.4 million in a seed funding round led by venture company LocalGlobe, along with participation from Samurai Incubate, Future Africa, Village Global, Rising Tide Africa, and Enza Capital. This brings Eden Life’s total investment to date to $2 million.

Eden Life was founded in 2019 by Nadayar Enegesi, Prosper Otemuyiwa and Silm Momoh to provide a solution to the challenge of finding reliable household services in Lagos. Their decision to venture into the unpopular category was shocking to some, especially as founders were increasingly venturing into fintech, e-commerce, and logistics at the time. “The reason was personal for us,” Nadayar Enegesi, the startup’s Chief Executive Officer, said. He explained that living and working in Lagos was hectic and that they knew exactly what it felt like. To ease the stress, Eden life was developed to provide dependable, efficient, and trustworthy home services to busy professionals —executives, remote workers, creatives, tech engineers and developers —who have very little spare time due to long working hours.

Since its launch, Eden Life has delivered over 60,000 services in Lagos alone. The company is yet to expand into other markets in Nigeria and the new funds will not be used for that either. Rather, the newly raised capital will be used to build out Eden Life’s in-house technology, and develop its own world-class kitchens and operations hubs.

The three services that Eden Life offers —food, laundry and cleaning services, can be accessed through its app. The app offers users a subscription service that delivers high-quality chef-cooked meals, laundry service, and home cleaning, and users can subscribe to more than one service. With the app, users can continually give feedback on all aspects of service, which the app uses to compile preferences and offer suggestions. The app also includes delivery time tracking, payments and billing, and user notifications.

So far, Eden Life has been working with established laundromats in various locations in Lagos, and a network of freelancers to run its laundry and cleaning end. But a vertical integration strategy, powered by the seed funding, will allow Eden Life to own and manage its entire supply chain and deliver its services without the need for third-party providers; by having a physical footprint where chefs prepare meals, laundry is carried out quickly and effectively, and cleaners receive training to render top-notch services.

Remus Brett, a General Partner at LocalGlobe, explained why his company backed Eden Life; “We fell in love with Eden Life’s vision for the future of home services in Africa. A true customer obsession sits at the heart of everything they are building – this is already visible in customer retention and other key metrics.” He added: “As investors, we are always attracted to first-mover companies that launch products in untapped markets. The combination of this advantage with a core team who has proven experience building African tech to unrivalled levels sets Eden Life on an exciting path of growth.”

Eden Life, in addition to its food, laundry and cleaning services, will be rolling out other services over the coming months, to make its home services app a one-stop platform to manage household chores.
