Elon Musk Tinkers With The Idea Of Charging Governments And Corporations A ‘Slight Cost’ To Tweet

With his potential acquisition of social media platform, Twitter still in the works while awaiting finalization, Elon Musk is already preparing the stage for the take over as he begins to kick around ideas for potential changes to the platform and the latest of them is charging corporations and governments to tweet.

The world richest man had tweeted:

Ultimately, the downfall of the Freemasons was giving away their stonecutting services for nothing

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 3, 2022

Musk has in the past few weeks talked about shoring up the free speech mandate of the micro blogging platform and had been an advocate of having an edit button on the popular app but  it remains unsure if that would all be done once the paper work on acquisition had been completed.

TechBooky had recently reported that Musk had while pitching banks on his acquisition, suggested he might charge media companies to quote or embed tweets and this is seen in many quarters  as a means to raise more funds for its acquisition and sustenance.

It will require a great deal of fireworks and public scrutiny to make governments and corporations pay to tweet as it appears very tricky to implement. For example, questions would be asked on disparity on the size of the company before it can be given rates to charge, as it would seem unfair to charge a company like Pepsi to tweet the same rate as a local brewery. In addition, questions would be asked if charges would be scaled, based on number of followers, which might not reflect a company’s size or even revenue which would still need a whole lot of process to validate. Other valid questions would be asked on these payment plans and would they get complex and complicated? Only Elon knows the plan and strategy to that effect.

While Musk may be tinkering with host of ideas at the buying stage, what exactly he hopes do when he finalizes the acquisition though not known yet will go a long way to either sustain the existence of the Jack Dorsey founded platform or diminish it.

Fingers crossed!
