Epic Games and Lego Enter Partnership to Build Metaverse for Kids

Fortnite developers, Epic Games and Lego, two of the biggest names in entertainment have both agreed to a partnership that would see to create a new digital environment for kids. According to statements by Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney “We are excited to come together to build a space in the metaverse that’s fun, entertaining, and made for kids and families.” The online space will be focused on kids and their skill development.

Details of what both powerhouses will be creating are still unknown and the concept of a metaverse remains a murky one. But both companies have confirmed that say that the end product will be designed as a family-friendly virtual space from the beginning. In a press release, the companies explained that “The Lego Group and Epic Games will combine their extensive experience to ensure that this next iteration of the internet is designed from the outset with the wellbeing of kids in mind.”

The idea of these powerhouses pairing for the same cause makes a whole lot of sense. Considering Epic Games has had several years of experience creating virtual worlds, we have seen it play out over and over again through the popular Fortnite. On the other hand, Lego which is largely focused on video games has continued to prove its worth. Both companies will now provide play opportunities to kids in a protected domain. Recently the gaming industry witnessed the launch of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Meanwhile, two of the most popular online video games Minecraft & Roblox, both offer a similar style of sandbox building as Lego bricks.

The new partnership joins a list of technological attempts by companies looking to build structures in the metaverse. To date, this list of companies positioning for the metaverse is endless, from Facebook to major NFT brands and the list continues.

For now, details about what this new partnership could look like are still unknown but be sure we will bring you all the gist and on what platforms it is expected to debut when it’s available. However, the companies have announced the principles they say will guide their creation: “protect children’s right to play by making safety and wellbeing a priority; safeguard children’s privacy by putting their best interests first; empower children and adults with tools that give them control over their digital experience.”

Fortnite developers Epic Game have been in the news lately, firstly for the launch of its next-generation version of its Unreal Engine game creation tool. Secondly raising a total of $144 million with the spade of two weeks as relief efforts to support peace due to the ongoing unrest in Ukraine.
