Epic Confirms Fortnite Will Return to iPads For EU Residents

Epic Games Announces 2024 Return to iOS in Europe - Insider Gaming

The iPad version of Fortnite will once again be accessible to European Union (EU) residents, as Epic Games announces plans for the release.

The EU Fortnite gamers who miss playing the free-to-play battle royale on Apple’s iPad will soon be able to do so once more, the Epic Games revealed in a post on X. The announcement comes after the European Commission said recently that, as part of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple must now ensure that iPadOS complies with the same regulations that iOS does.

Because of the DMA, Epic Games had already revealed plans to reintroduce the iOS version of Fortnite to the EU App Store. Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, stated the company’s ultimate goal is to become the “number one multi-platform software store, on the foundation of payment competition, 0%-12% fees, and exclusive games like Fortnite.” This is part of a larger effort to launch the Epic Games Store on Android and iOS in the EU.

The Epic Games Store is coming to Android

About four years ago, Epic introduced an in-game direct-pay method, which led to the removal of Fortnite from all mobile devices. Players were able to purchase V-Bucks at a lower cost as a result of the outcome, but the app was removed from Google’s and Apple app stores because it violated their standards. Epic revealed it was suing both firms shortly after Fortnite was removed from both app stores, with different outcomes.

Since its withdrawal, players have had to stream Fortnite using either Xbox Cloud Gaming or Nvidia GeForce Now if they wanted to play the game on the road but lacked a portable gaming PC like the Steam Deck or a Nintendo Switch. A new release date for Fortnite on mobile devices has not yet been announced by Epic.
