It looks like 2018 is the year for the face and not the finger at least from Apple’s perspective if reports are true.  It appears as if it’s time to drop the fingers and use the face to unlock iPhones as according to KSI securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo, fingerprint scanners for iPhones will be ditched to favour Face ID Scanner. This could then be a standard security standard for all iPhones in a nut shell.

facial recognition

According to a report on MacRumors, in a note to investors Ming Chi kuo explain that the new technology decision is done to gain more competitive advantage over android smartphones and that he has predicted previously that in order for Android smartphones to catch up with Apple on the Face ID recognition technology, it will take Android smartphone manufacturers about two and half years to catch up with them.

In a note by Kuo which reads “We predict all new 2H18F iPhone models will likely abandon fingerprint recognition. We believe this change will allow all new models to realize a competitive advantage via differentiation, on the back of an integrated user experience of full-screen design and True Depth Camera/ Facial recognition/ Face ID/ AR applications,”

Interestingly, Kuo also added in suggestive remarks explained that all new iPhones that will created from 2018 should have with a full screen design, an edge to edge display should take advantage of the Face recognition technology as the iPhone X, Apple claims the technology is more accurate and secure than that of the touch ID technology previously used in their products.

IPhone 8 and 8 plus still have the fingerprint scanner in them to unlock the device and a bezels as the previous device but with Ming Chi’s prediction, it seems Apple iPhone 8 and 8 plus might be the last set iPhones we might be seeing from the company with such features. Per order for the latest device will be on the 27th of October and on the 2nd of November, Apple iPhone X will hit the shelves globally, it comes in 64GB and 256GB storage variant, priced at $999.

Not to forget, the Apple iPad Pro model which is scheduled to launch by 2018 will also have the Face ID technology and a true depth camera feature in it.
