New Report Reveals How Facebook Spent $13 billion On Security Since 2016

Due to litany of leaks by Wall Street Journal (WSJ), social media platform, Facebook has notified the public how it invested over $13 billion in 2016 when onboarding 40,000 new staffers to validate its security and safety measures.

Facebook had weeks after The Facebook Files” was Published by the Wall Street Journal revealed in a blog post the  extent it has gone and is willing to take to safeguard and maintain security on its platform, in what can be termed ‘a stylish ground shifting’.

“In the past, we didn’t address safety and security challenged early enough in the product development process,” Facebook said. 

“But we have fundamentally changed that approach. Today, we embed teams focusing specifically on safety and security issues directly into product development teams, allowing us to address these issues during our product development process, not after it,” the post added.

The Wall Street Journal had in series of allegations accused Facebook of intentionally postponing action implementations during the spike in the Coronavirus pandemic, despite the platform being aware of the severity of the situation and the nauseating effect of spreading misinformation, coupled with its userbasemisleading emotional burden.

WSG further averred that Facebook was in the know of the malady users are being exposed to, but rather chose to refrain from fixing the issues out of the probable fear it might influence user engagement.

But Facebook hit back through Nick Clegg, one of its executives who issued a counter-statement accused WSJ of intentionally mislabeling what the company was trying to accomplish during the pandemic.

In a bid to showcase the efforts of Facebook on curtailing this, the security team initiated a plan to purge more than 150 influence operations, with the sophisticated Artificial Intelligence (AI) of Facebook reportedly playing a major role in blocking 3 billion fake accounts in the first half of 2021, while it keeps upgrading itself.

“Today, we embed teams focusing specifically on safety and security issues directly into product development teams, allowing us to address these issues during our product development process, not after it. Products also have to go through an Integrity Review process, similar to the Privacy Review process, so we can anticipate potential abuses and build in ways to mitigate them. Here are a few examples of how far we’ve come,” the post declared. 

Facebook further exonerated itself from the claims in the WSG The Facebook Files that it was intentional in removing contents that had a direct violation of its hate speech standards, while it also removed 15 times more of similar content from its platform and Instagram in 2017 alone.

This according to Facebook came to the fore where it implemented advanced technology that helps learning from a language in the application of the same method  onall posts in various languages to elevate its performance level.
