Facebook Outage: South African Communications Minister Reiterates The Need For A New “Mxit” In The Country

In response to recent worldwide disruptions of major social media platforms, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, South Africa’s Minister of Communications, has championed the idea of a locally developed alternative. She cited the recent global outage of Facebook’s suite of applications as a wake-up call for the South African government to invest more heavily in the creation of South African-owned social media platforms.
