After being spotted in testing earlier this year, Facebook has officially launched its new activity dashboard in their app, which will help users maintain awareness of the time they’re spending in each app, and could reduce the amount of mindless scrolling.

The brand new set of feature, referred to as “Your time on Fb” and “Your exercise” on Instagram, are designed to deal with considerations that addictive suggestions loops constructed into social apps have been detrimental to customers’ well-being. As explained by Facebook, which also added:

“We want the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram to be intentional, positive and inspiring. Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time they spend on our platforms and also foster conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them.”

How is works

To search out the brand new options on Facebook, click on the button with three vertical traces —also referred to as the hamburger menu — within the bottom-right nook of the app. Scroll right down to “Your time on Fb” and faucet. On Instagram, you’ll discover “Your exercise” contained in the settings menu, which you entry by tapping the gear icon in your profile.

At the top, you’ll see a dashboard showing your average time for that app on that device. Tap any bar to see your total time for that day. Below the dashboard, you can set a daily reminder to give yourself an alert when you’ve reached the amount of time you want to spend on that app for that day. You can change or cancel the reminder at any time. You can also tap on “Notification Settings” to quickly access the new “Mute Push Notifications” setting.

When you’ve reached that point, the app will ship you a reminder that you just have hit your everyday restrict, though you’ll be able to proceed to browse in case you like. You can even handle your notification settings from the dashboard, together with a brand new function that may allow you to mute them for as much as eight hours. This move by Facebook will help limit Facebook or Instagram notifications for a period of time when you need to focus.

The feature will roll out to all customers globally in couple weeks.
