After nearly 12 hours, Facebook has finally fixed the bugs and outages affecting its apps. If you’ve had trouble accessing pictures or uploading a video on Facebook, WhatsApp and messenger platforms, the outage is the reason why. And all three platforms should now be working properly.
The problems began at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday morning and have continued well into the afternoon. Photos and videos on all three services were either broken, not viewable, or difficult to upload. According to user reports, the vast majority of problems with Instagram involved the app’s news feed, as well as uploading and viewing photos. WhatsApp users are having issues with sending or receiving messages and with the app’s connection to servers.
Facebook acknowledged the issue and said in a statement, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble uploading or sending images, videos, and other files on our apps,” Facebook wrote in a statement on Twitter earlier Wednesday morning. “We’re sorry for the trouble and are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”
“During one of our routine maintenance operations, we triggered an issue that is making it difficult for some people to upload or send photos and videos. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience,” a Facebook spokesperson told CNN Business.
At 12:45 am on Thursday morning, the company issued a statement saying that the issues had been resolved. “Earlier today, some people and businesses experienced trouble uploading or sending images, videos and other files on our apps and platforms. The issue has since been resolved and we should be back at 100% for everyone. We’re sorry for any inconvenience.” Now The company has confirmed this in tweets for Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram.
However, Twitter has been having its own issues, with its support page tweeting at 8:57 a.m. PT that it was “having some issues with DM delivery and notifications. “We’re almost at 100% resolved,” Twitter Support updated at 3:34 p.m. PT. “There may be some residual effects for a small group of people, but overall your DMs should be working properly now. We appreciate your patience”
Unsurprisingly, this isn’t the first time Facebook and its apps have faced outage in 2019. Earlier in April 2019, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were down globally. Facebook faced its longest disruption of over 24 hours again in March 2019. Facebook hasn’t given any reasons for the current problem. In April, Facebook had blamed the server configuration change for the outage. The frequency with which Instagram is going down these days, the DDoS attacks seem to be a reasonable explanation.
