Firechat Enables Cross-Platform, Off-The-Grid Chat Between iOS And Android; learn more…

Firechat, developed by Open Garden, has been revolutionizing the digital communication realm by offering an innovative cross-platform chat function between iOS and Android systems that doesn’t require an internet connection. Initially, Android was not compatible with this feature, but Open Garden ingeniously employed their proprietary networking technology to bridge the gap on Google’s operating system. Communication between Android and iOS devices, however, was not initially feasible.

Firechat’s latest update, affectionately dubbed Firechat <3, has successfully overcome this hurdle, offering Apple and Android users the ability to communicate over the same off-the-grid mesh network. Firechat’s impressive growth since its inception has made it an even more attractive platform, and this recent achievement adds to its appeal.

Bridging the Android mesh network and Apple’s multi-peer technology was a significant achievement attributed to Open Garden’s years of dedicated research and development in mesh networking technology. The company remains reluctant to share explicit details about the method used. However, it is understood that the solution involves utilizing peer-to-peer Wi-Fi and Bluetooth personal area network.

Christophe Daligault, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Open Garden, has suggested that the company intends to develop an SDK that would integrate Firechat and Open Garden technology into third-party apps. This would create an additional method of accessing the Internet alongside Wi-Fi and the cellular network, allowing users to connect online via other Open Garden users, or use the off-the-grid feature when no network is available. Further details about the logistics and pricing structure for this groundbreaking feature remain unspecified, but Daligault indicates that costs could be associated with the activities facilitated through the SDK.
