Galaxy Backbone & NASENI Partner to Boost Nigeria’s ICT

Galaxy Backbone Limited and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure have agreed to expand partnership with a government-wide ICT services as part of their efforts to promote Nigeria’s digital transformation goal.

Prof Ibrahim Adeyanju, GBB’s Managing Director and CEO, paid a courtesy call to NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Mr Khalil Suleiman Halilu, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

GBB said in a statement on Friday that the interaction provided an essential forum for both leaders to enhance cooperation and push a shared vision for improved ICT service delivery in the public sector.

The statement further explains GBB as the government’s foremost provider of digital infrastructure and shared ICT services, noting that the agency remains committed to strengthening secure connectivity, improving service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, and promoting the integration of locally developed technology solutions into the national ecosystem.

During the discussion, the two CEOs reaffirmed their commitment to improving interoperability across government platforms, increasing digital access, and allowing smarter, more efficient public services across the country.

The goal of the partnership has stated during the discussion session are outline below;

Accelerating Digital Transformation: Collaborating to move Nigeria’s digital agenda forward.

Integrating Indigenous Solutions: Encouraging the adoption and integration of locally generated technology solutions into the national ecosystem by leveraging NASENI’s mandate for local innovation.

Improving Public Service Efficiency: Promoting and increasing interoperability, expanding digital access, and enabling smarter, more efficient government services across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Deepening Secure Connectivity: Leveraging Galaxy Backbone’s experience as the government’s premier digital infrastructure provider to create a resilient and secure government-wide ICT backbone.

GBB also highlighted its duty to power “a resilient government-wide ICT backbone, promote the adoption of secure digital platforms, and lay the groundwork for innovation to thrive.”

“Together, GBB and NASENI will continue to advance initiatives that strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and promote sustainable, technology-driven national development.”

The agency also stated that the renewed relationship complements ongoing efforts to boost Nigeria’s digital future.

Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the Head of the Federation’s Civil Service, expressed confidence in achieving a fully paperless civil service by December 31, 2025, following a working visit to Galaxy Backbone Limited, Nigeria’s leading provider of digital infrastructure and shared ICT services, according to The PUNCH.

The Head of Service hailed Galaxy Backbone as a crucial partner in the implementation of a contemporary, flexible, and paperless civil service, stating that the agency’s infrastructure quality and scalability had considerably increased her office’s confidence in reaching the digitisation goal. 

Galaxy Backbone Limited, Nigeria’s state-owned digital infrastructure and shared services provider, has announced that four key international certifications will be renewed by September 2025, a milestone that the company claims will strengthen national digital infrastructure, increase trust, and position the country as a secure digital hub.

ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) ensures continual improvement and the delivery of dependable, high-quality services, whereas ISO 22301 (Business Continuity Management Systems) ensures service resilience and recovery during disruptions or crises.

Other standards include ISO 20000 (Service Management Systems), which standardises service delivery to increase reliability and customer satisfaction, and ISO 27001 (Information Security Management Systems), which improves data confidentiality, integrity, and protection against cyber attacks.

The joint partnership will involves several specific initiatives and areas of focus, which are 

High-Performance Computing (HPC) Project Support: Galaxy Backbone has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide high-speed connectivity, colocation, backup, and disaster recovery services for NASENI’s HPC project.

Shared Infrastructure: The partnership’s goal is to coordinate ongoing technology infrastructure projects to reduce duplication and maximise resource efficiency.

Leveraging Expertise: Galaxy Backbone will offer safe data hosting, cloud services, and large network infrastructure, while NASENI will concentrate on engineering and innovation.

This collaboration is considered as an important step towards the country’s long-term, technology-driven development and a more connected future.
