Google continues to enhance user experience by announcing an upgrade to its highly coveted, Gboard – the name affectionately assigned to the native keyboard app found on Google-powered smartphones. Tailored specifically for iOS users, this upgrade pledges to revolutionize the way one interacts with their smartphone.
Revealed in a detailed blog post, Google declared the inclusion of a voice dictation feature in the upgraded Gboard on iOS 10.
Easing the seamless switch to voice dictation requires either an update to the current app version or a simple download of the latest incarnation of Gboard onto your iPhone or iPad. With the rollout, users can tap into this feature by long-pressing the spacebar, which redirects to a new screen flaunting a microphone icon-simply talk into this to explore the voice dictation.
While Apple’s iOS 10 keyboard by default offers a similar functionality, Google has rolled out additional updates to distance its app from the competition. These updates include support for 15 more languages, including Malay, Russian, and Polish, and expedited access to Google’s Doodles—the charming animations used to commemorate special occasions, historical figures, and noteworthy events.
As of yet, Google remains tight-lipped on the implementation of these features on the Android version of Gboard. As with all technological advancements, we can only wait to witness the waves that this bold step by Google is set to stir.
