Gemini Live Adds Camera & Screen Sharing on Android

On Wednesday, Google said that all suitable Android smartphones will now have access to Gemini Live with Camera and Screen Share capabilities. The IT giant from Mountain View said last week that the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 series will be able to use the features. The business is now making it available on any Android smartphones that have the Gemini app installed. Users will still need a Gemini Advanced membership in order to access the new Gemini Live features, therefore this does not imply that the functionality is free.

Google began making Gemini Live camera and screen sharing available to Advanced members last week, and all Android users will soon be able to access the Project Astra-powered features for free.

The Google Gemini App’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter) announced the extension of the new Gemini Live features, stating that the Gemini Live with Camera and Screen Share feature has been well received and is now being rolled out to all Android devices that support the Gemini app.

You may now ask questions about what’s on your screen or camera using Gemini Live. By opening the Gemini overlay and touching the new “Share screen with Live” chip, screen sharing may be started immediately. Following confirmation, a count will appear in your status bar next to the current time. Since then, Google has introduced Live’s new phone call-style notification.

You may browse a website or app while speaking with Gemini Live. Before Gemini Live responds, there is a little vibration. To “Stop sharing,” you may always pull down your notification shade.

We’ve been hearing great feedback on Gemini Live with camera and screen share, so we decided to bring it to more people ✨

Starting today and over the coming weeks, we're rolling it out to *all* @Android users with the Gemini app. Enjoy!

At Google I/O last year, the Live Video and screen sharing functionalities were initially shown. The business then gave a peek of it during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, which took place over a year later. These functionalities, which were created by Google DeepMind as part of Project Astra, enable the AI chatbot to provide real-time support via screen recording or the customer’s device’s camera feed. It is also anticipated that its features will also be included in future Android XR smartphones.

In order to have a discussion about what the user sees, Gemini Live with Camera may access the camera on the device feed and interpret the visual data in real-time. This implies that users can ask Gemini to identify a tree by pointing their camera in its direction, and the AI will be capable of doing so with little delay.

In a similar vein, Gemini Live with Screen Share enables users to grant the AI chatbot access to their screen and provide support across various menus, apps, and interfaces. For example, if a user asks Gemini to help them edit an image and share it with friends, it will direct them to an installed photo editing app, assist them with the editing process, and then help them share the image on WhatsApp or other social media platforms.

Use the new button on the left to start the camera in fullscreen Gemini Live (you can also start screen sharing from here). After that, a viewfinder displays, and you can switch to the front-facing lens by pressing a button in the bottom-right corner.

According to Gemini, “Capture objects with steady movements for better results.” For Gemini Live to record video, the display has to be turned on.

Only Gemini Advanced customers currently have access to these two Gemini features. Google has not stated whether or when free-tier users would be able to access them. The Google One AI Premium membership, which costs 22.84 USD a month, comes with the Gemini Advanced plan.

You may discuss a picture, PDF, or YouTube video using Gemini Live in addition to using your camera and screen.

The Astra-powered visual sharing feature of Gemini Live was initially revealed at I/O 2024 in May of last year. In March, it began to roll out, and last week, Gemini Advanced became widely available.

Today, the business told 9to5Google that it will no longer require a membership and that it is extending the rollout to “all” Android users. The full version of this free Gemini Live camera will be accessible “in the coming weeks.”

Following the release of Gemini 2.5 Pro (experimental) last month, Google is acting swiftly to make this available to users for free.
