Annually, Google releases a summary of the most popular searches, reflecting the topics that piqued collective curiosity in areas like pop culture, entertainment, internet phenomena, and current events. This year, people all over the world were most interested in hot honey, AI chatbots, and the Toronto Blue Jays.

In its 2025 Year in Search report, Google listed “Gemini” as the top global trending search term. This reflects the greatest increase in search volume over the previous year, but it does not necessarily represent the highest overall volume of searches.

It’s important to note that Google’s report doesn’t reflect the most popular searches overall, otherwise, terms like “weather” would top the list. The “Year in Search” instead highlights queries that surged in interest in 2025 relative to 2024.

Nevertheless, “Gemini,” the Google’s AI chatbot, was among a number search items and also was the year’s most popular search, which included cricket matches and political figures. Regional surveys also reported a high level of interest in the technology, with Gemini ranking second overall in India behind the Indian Premier League, “India vs. England” and “Charlie Kirk.”, DeepSeek was placed seventh among the year’s top searches, so Gemini wasn’t the first AI chatbot to appear on the list.

Charlie Kirk was the most popular news item in 2025, according to Google, with the search term “Charlie Kirk assassination” topping the list. “Iran” and “US Government Shutdown” were the second and third most popular news queries.

In terms of recipes and cuisine, hot honey, a sweet and spicy spice that took the top rank, followed by Marry Me Chicken and chimichurri.

“Anora” was the most popular movie search term, followed by “Superman” and “Minecraft Movie.” Mikey Madison, the star of “Anora,” was the most popular actor searched for. Lewis Pullman, who played in Marvel’s “Thunderbolts,” came in second, followed by Isabela Merced from “Superman.”

The top trending sports search was “FIFA Club World Cup,” followed by “Asia Cup” and “ICC Champions Trophy.” Paris Saint-Germain F.C. was the most searched-for sports team, followed by S.L. Benfica and the Toronto Blue Jays.

The top popular podcast search was “The Charlie Kirk Show,” followed by Jason and Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” and “This is Gavin Newsom.”

The top trending book search was for Colleen Hoover’s “Regretting You.” The top three songs were “Onyx Storm” by Rebecca Yarros and “Lights Out” by Naveesa Allen.
