Sparkle with Risk? Burn-Causing Glitter iPhone Case Recalled

Once again, we are reminded of the age-old saying, “not all that glitters is gold.” Tragically, this time it’s not about the perils of cherished illusions but the sparkling allure of a glitter iPhone case that’s causing users more harm than eye-candy. This incident bears an eerie similarity to the infamous Samsung Note 7 debacle, which saw devices spontaneously catching fire and consequently being recalled globally.

The glitter-filled iPhone cases have caught the attention of the Consumer Product Safety Commission as reports suggest that the liquid inside these engaging accessories can result in severe chemical burns.

The recall affects the markets in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an alarming press release shedding light on the severity of the situation, “One consumer reported permanent scarring from a chemical burn and another consumer reported chemical burns and swelling to her leg, face, neck, chest, upper body, and hands.”

These captivating cases have been quite popular with consumers, with over 200,000 units sold in the regions affected by the recall. Some of the notable retailers include big names like Amazon, Henri Bendel, MixBin, Nordstrom Rack, Tory Burch, and Victoria’s Secret. These cases were on sale for almost two years.

These glitter iPhone cases, which were manufactured by MixBin Electronics, are distinctively designed with glitter floating beneath their plastic surface. The manufacturer has recognized the severity of the issue and is offering reimbursements to customers who have purchased the product.

To possibly prevent more consumers from being exposed to the risks, these cases have been removed from online shops like Amazon and eBay. It will be a matter of importance to see how MixBin Electronics tackles this issue and hopefully recreates this iPhone case, retaining its attractive aesthetics but without the harmful effects.
