Following a widespread data service outage that started early on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, telecom provider Glo has issued an apology to its customers.

Numerous areas and a significant portion of the company’s roughly 21.39 million users throughout Nigeria were impacted by the outage. The users were greatly irritated by the outage; several stated that their active subscriptions were unusable and that their data balances were not displayed. Before learning that it was a network-wide problem, several consumers unintentionally bought new plans.

Glo acknowledged in a statement that the outage, which began at 8:30 a.m., impacted several sites nationwide.

The company stated that its data connectivity across multiple locations was affected by a nationwide data service outage earlier today.

Subscribers were reassured by Glo that its technical staff is hard at work restoring services.

The statement said, “Our technical team is working to resolve the issue and ensure services are being restored as soon as possible.”

The supplier thanked by acknowledging its clients for their understanding and acknowledged the inconvenience.

As seen above, Downdetector marks an outage only when problem reports exceed the normal baseline for that time of day, and the report volume here was significantly elevated.

The company also stated that by expressing their sympathy with a sincere apologise for the disruption and understand how important reliable access is to its users and customers.

The final line of the statement thanked the customers for their continuous confidence as they appreciate its customers patience and their decision to choose Glo as it preferred service.

Glo praised its clients for their patience and recognised the inconvenience they had experienced. Although the firm has not given a specific explanation for this outage, past disruptions have been attributed to widespread vandalism and damage to fibre infrastructure, which is a common problem in Nigeria’s telecom industry.

In order to reaffirm its dedication to quickly addressing the issue, Glo also reached out to impacted subscribers via social media.

However as seen above from the downdetector, the complaints report are gradally reducing and this is to indicate this the incident has been restored.

This event comes after a similar network outage that was caused by multiple fibre cuts and affected many northern states in November.

And on the social media post on X, formerly Twitter, Glo posted that the service has been restored.

Customers are urged to visit Glo’s official social media accounts, such as the GloWorld X account or the official Glo Facebook page, for the most recent information.
