A new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered functionality has been added to Gmail as part of the Google Workspace May feature release. The summarize function was a feature added to Gmail for iOS and Android last year, and Gemini can now automatically display summary cards. The Mountain View IT giant also has declared that it will be incorporating summary cards into emails that are either extremely lengthy or comprise a protracted email thread. These summary cards, which are produced by Gemini AI, will automatically show up at the top of emails to give users background information about the content. Additionally, Google Chat, Google Docs, and Google Meet now have AI capabilities thanks to the most recent update.
Gmail Now Automatically Displays AI Summaries, according to the firm, Gmail customers who now have an active membership to Google Workspace will now read email summaries in a different manner. To view an AI-generated synopsis of a certain email or thread, users previously had to open the email and tap the Gemini icon.
The Gemini-powered “Summarize this email” feature was first a button that you had to manually hit beneath the subject line. By doing this, the requested bullet points would slide up the Gemini sheet.
“Gemini summary cards” will now be automatically displayed by Gmail on mobile devices “when a summary could be helpful, such as with longer email threads.” If the card isn’t useful, you can collapse it from the upper-right corner.
Google takes note of how In order to keep it current, “Gemini summarizes all the important points from the email thread and refreshes it when people reply.” (The screenshot displays a different, pill-shaped Reply UI design rather than a solid bar.)
The most recent version will allow Gemini to recognize emails that need a summary and display it automatically in a summary card that is positioned at the top of the email. Additionally, the summary will be immediately updated if someone responds to the post. In the event that users decide the summary card is useless, they can also collapse it.
The “May Workspace feature drop” included information about this rollout. Additionally, Google emphasized that Gemini summaries are available for papers and in Google Chat’s Home view. The Google Docs summary building block is another option.
Additionally, Google Chat will get a few additional features. In order to help users identify which messages need their immediate attention, Gemini will now summarize messages in Chat’s home screen. English, Spanish, and six additional languages are accessible for this feature.
The contents of a shared Workspace file can also be analysed and summarized by Gemini. Therefore, before accessing a document that a colleague shares, the user can view a summary in the side panel.
Additionally, a new AI function called the summary building block is being added to Google Docs. Users can choose to place the summary that Gemini creates at the start of a document so that readers can better grasp the background information before delving deeper. The summary can be updated to reflect the most recent version of the document each time it is amended.
Furthermore, the business has showcased new dynamic Google Meet layouts that provide customers the option of “room” or “individual” tiles. While the individual tile focuses on the face of a single participant, the room tile is best suited for situations where a single device is being used to display numerous participants.
Finally, Google is reviewing Mind Maps and NotebookLM’s Discover sources. Google is emphasizing studio appearance, lighting, and sound in Meet, along with dynamic layouts.
