In a bit to enhance the speed of the Chrome web browser, search giant- Google has now added new Memory Saver and Energy Saver settings. These two new performance settings for the  Chrome web browser use up to 40% and 10GB less memory to keep your tabs running smoothly and extend your battery when it’s running low.

How the Memory Saver mode works is by reeasing the memory from the tabs that are not being used. By doing this, Chrome will make sure that the active tabs function properly while using up to 40% less memory. When utilizing some demanding websites or programs or even when playing online games, this mode might be particularly helpful. The inactive tab will be reloaded so you can start using it once more if you choose to do so.

According to a blog post by the search giant, the Memory Saver feature is guaranteed to deliver the “smoothest possible experience.” Google further says that “this is especially useful if you’re running other intensive applications, like editing family videos or playing games. Any inactive tabs will be reloaded when you need them.”

On the other side, the Energy Saver mode will assist you in conserving battery life by reducing background activity and visual effects. As a result, even if the user’s battery is only 20% charged and needs to rapidly search for anything using Chrome, you can do so without having to worry about the power running out. This feature in Chrome will save battery by limiting background activity and visual effects for websites with animations and videos.

Users will be able to disable either function or designate the most critical websites as being exempt from Memory Saver when these capabilities become available.  In other words, users are able to control how Chrome performs to suit their preferences.

The new performance modes are located in Chrome’s Settings (under the three-dot menu in the top right corner), and once they are turned on, they will appear close to the search bar. Now available in Chrome for Desktop, the Memory Saver and Energy Saver modes will be rolled out to all users on Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS.

These two modes are a part of Google Chrome, version 108, which also includes the ability to open Search in a side panel and the price tracking tool.
