Google Adds Undo Button to Gboard for Android

The Gboard for Android beta is starting to roll out a “Undo” button after it was initially seen in development in July 2023.

For quicker access, drag “Undo” up to the recommendations row, where it appears as a new shortcut.

Unless you erased a whole word or sentence, Gboard will reverse your previous action when you tap, one letter at a time. Additionally, the strip has “Undo” and “Redo” buttons with corresponding icons.

The most recent version of the Gboard for Android beta app adds Undo and Redo options to the keyboard application, which, as the names imply, allow users to go back and forth through their edits until desired text appears on the screen. According to a report, Google is implementing a feature for the Gboard app on Android that aims to make it easier for users to correct their typing errors.

In a quick test, this functionality seems to allow you to undo by closing and reopening the keyboard. However, the memory is reset after you close an application. The Undo/Redo chips will show up when you hit the Undo key, but they will be grayed out when you are unable to do anything.

Gboard’s Undo and Redo Options, since July 2023, when it was initially revealed that the new feature was being developed, there has been no indication that it will be made available to the public. But according to 9to5Google’s most recent report, Gboard for Android beta app version 14.9.06.x has been made accessible. The Undo and Redo buttons are believed to be located in the keyboard’s top strip and can be accessed by shortcuts in the suggestions tab.

Google hopes that this function, which restores erased text, would help users type more efficiently. According to the report, even when the keyboard is minimized within the same application, the functionality still uses RAM. Nevertheless, the options appear grayed out when you close and reopen the application. It may work almost anywhere Gboard is the default keyboard app because Google is reportedly implementing this feature systemwide.

According to the source, the feature that allows users to undo and redo texts on Gboard is still under development and is only accessible to a limited number of beta testers who have signed up for the Google Play Beta program. It should be mentioned that not all of the features that developers test in beta end up in the final version of the program. The feature’s existence on beta testers’ phones, however, indicates that it will probably be made available to all users in the upcoming months.

Additional Features of the New Gboard also reveals the Pixel Studio app’s connection with Gboard last month forms the foundation for this development. AI-generated stickers may now be made by Pixel users right within the keyboard app. They may be made using Gboard’s new Stickers tab or the app’s My Projects library. Gboard may now offer movie, music, product, and other text recommendations based on data collected from screenshots thanks to the company’s connection with the Pixel Screenshots app.

This functionality is fairly basic and a very valuable addition to Gboard for Android.

We’re seeing issues with version 14.9.06.x of Gboard, which is presently in beta. This is only showing up on one of our Android smartphones today and has not yet been broadly distributed.
