Google to Grant Developers Access to Its Assistant Starting December

This coming December sees an exciting move from tech giant, Google, as it opens its doors to the developer community. The initial integration of the new Google Assistant allows developers to build and showcase their skills, a strategy reminiscent of Apple’s decision to give developers access to Siri. This move explains why users of popular platforms such as Uber and WhatsApp on iOS 10 can now conveniently request rides or facilitate smoother chats on the app.

In a recent statement, Google engineer, Scott Huffman, confirmed that [Google Assistant will be open to developers](https://youtu.be/q4y0KOeXViI?t=1h43m28s) by the end of the year. The integration permits developers to create two types of user input responses – Direct and Conversation Actions. Direct Actions correspond to simple instructions, such as switching on and off the lights. On the other hand, Conversation Actions involve more intricate and interactive commands, like making a restaurant reservation or requesting an Uber ride. This level of integration is similar to Facebook’s strategy of opening its Bits platform for developers.

Using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Google Assistant continuously learns from your online behavior to offer improved, personalized predictions. The more frequently you use it in Allo, Google’s new messaging app, the more intelligent its responses become. It will be fascinating to observe the innovative ways developers might harness the capabilities of the Google Assistant.

Currently, the applications of Google Assistant have been expanded beyond Allo, marking its presence in devices such as [Google Home](http://techbooky.com/4262-2/), Google’s sleek, router that doubles as a speaker. The device is now available for $129 at the Google Store, offering a range of enhanced features that optimize the user’s online experience.

With these ongoing improvements and integrations, the Google Assistant is poised to provide an even more streamlined, engaging user experience in the not-so-distant future.
