Google is set to bolster the security of its Chrome browser for Windows users with the introduction of three major updates aimed at making the detection and removal of malware much more straightforward. In a recent [blog post](https://www.blog.google/products/chrome/cleaner-safer-web-chrome-cleanup/) by Philippe Rivard, the Chrome Cleanup Product Manager, he announced that “when Chrome detects unauthorized changes to user settings, it will offer to restore the settings to their original state.”

This significant change will place a spotlight on browser extensions that make unwarranted modifications to user settings, such as changing the default search engine. These intrusive extensions will now draw the ire of Google, helping to maintain the user’s preferred browsing environment.

It’s not just browser extensions that will be under surveillance. Any links luring users to ad-laden sites will also meet with obstruction. We are already familiar with Chrome’s Cleanup functionality, but the fresh series of updates will bestow it with a multitude of new and smart features designed to enhance the browsing experience for Chrome users worldwide.

Moving forward, Google Chrome will also alert users before they visit a site known for propagating malware — a crucial safeguard for today’s online experience. The majority of malware issues arise because users unwittingly click on infected links in their emails or on various websites. These unrecognized threats provide a digital backdoor for hackers without needing direct access to a user’s system.

Given the eventuality of a successful malware attack, Chrome’s new Cleanup feature can assist in easily restoring the default settings. Moreover, a preventive mechanism has been put in place that will alert users when suspicious software is actively detected, offering them help to remove it.

Google is also collaborating with esteemed antivirus company ESET to integrate their sandbox technology with the Chrome Cleanup feature to detect web-based malware more accurately. Windows users can expect these enhancements in the upcoming update scheduled to be released in the next few days.

Google’s relentless efforts towards improving the safety and convenience of browsing the internet have once again culminated in these crucial updates. Users can rest assured in knowing their Chrome experience is becoming even more secure, powerful, and user-friendly.
