Google Is Bringing Its Vibe-Coding Tool Opal to Gemini. Google stated on December 17, 2025, that its experimental “vibe-coding” tool, Opal, would be integrated directly into the Gemini web application, enabling users to make their own unique apps that Google refers to as Gems.

With the use of natural language that is plain English, and visual editing tools, users may create and distribute unique and express their desired features with AI-powered mini-apps, or “gems,” without having to write conventional code.

Gems are specialised variants of Gemini that were introduced in 2024 and are intended for particular jobs or situations. A learning coach, a brainstorming assistance, a career advisor, a coding companion, and an editor are a few of Google’s pre-made gems.

Opal, on the other hand, concentrates on assisting users in combining pre-existing apps or developing mini-apps. When a user describes an app in plain language, the tool uses the many Gemini models to generate the desired application.

Opal can now be accessed on the Gems manager on Gemini’s website. The procedures needed to construct an application are laid out in the tool’s visual editor. Without creating code, users can link and rearrange steps from the editor.

The Gems manager’s visual editor enables users to link, reorganise, and visualise application processes.

A typed prompt in Gemini is automatically converted into an organised list of doable actions via a new view.

The mini-apps (Gems) can be shared with others through Google account access or saved for future use.

Google notes that the visual editor includes a new Gemini view that transforms written prompts into a step-by-step list, streamlining app building and testing.

Users can switch from Gemini interface to the Advanced Editor at opal.google.com for more sophisticated customisation possibilities. Once the tiny apps are developed, they can be utilised again.

Over the past few years, the use of AI to program and create apps which is known as “vibe-coding” which has also become incredibly popular. Apps from businesses like Lovable and Cursor are now available on the market, along with products from AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI. Additionally, there are tools that are more directly targeted towards users, such as those from the AI-powered app development business Wabi.

Opal began as an experimental initiative in Google Labs in the middle of 2024, and by late 2025, it had spread to more than 160 countries. Google is competing with other AI coding and programming aids by integrating it into the standard Gemini interface.
