Google Is Retiring An Important Section Of The Play Store

For some time now, Google has slowly introduced changes to the Play Store. This change includes adding an app compatibility section for devices, a crackdown on outdated apps, and a few others. In a recent announcement by the company, the Movies & TV section of the Play Store will be retiring as part of efforts on restructuring happening.

The restructuring has kick-started and users have noticed parts of the Movies & TV tab of the Play Store have started disappearing. Although reports confirmed that this doesn’t mean that Google is disabling the ability to buy or rent movies and TV shows from its ecosystem, this ability still remains. The company plans to merge the whole section with the Google TV app.

For users who might have made purchases for video content through the Play Store, such services will now be available through the Google TV app. The company is also ensuring that the app keeps a track of user wishlists. Moreover, curated content from other video streaming platforms such as Disney+ and Prime Video be showcased, and users can make the choice of watching their favorite content directly through the app.

Also, the Google TV app will now provide a remote control feature for all Android TV and Google TV devices, this includes the streaming boxes, sticks, and smart TVs. Reports say that the Play Store now wears a simpler look thanks to the removal of the Movies & TV section. It also gathered that the Google TV app will now provide a unified experience.
