If you use an Android device there is a good chance you interact with the Google app often which comes pre-installed on every Android device out there. The Google app has been known to be of great assistance for quick searches or to get news and weather updates on the go. For users who use the Google app for search very often, you might have to start preparing to get used to tapping in a different location on the screen of your device. That’s because Google has rolled out testing for a new location for the search bar in the Google app. Reports say the company is also testing a minor redesign that may come to the search bar.

According to Google News, a redesigned search bar might have even started showing up for some users on the latest release of the Google app beta. The updated search bar made an appearance at the top right of the app, a replacement for the weather widget in the upper left corner and integrating the profile button.

In the current version of the app, the circular button which carries a user’s profile picture is located outside the search bar by the top right corner. Integrating it into the search bar gives the app a cleaner look and clears up some space for the cards below. The traditional camera and voice input keys are present at their usual locations, just like how they are in the current version of the app.

Reports by XDA-developers also say that the tech giant is also testing relocating the search bar to the bottom of the screen, it is believed the new position will make it more accessible and easy to use. There appears to be some similar to what Google had done with the search bar on some earlier versions of Android. The search bar was integrated into the dock to make it easier for users to access it. We can observe something similar within the Google app now.

The search bar appears right above the navigation bar at the bottom. It is expected to disappear as soon as users start scrolling and resurface when users make a scroll up again. Although, changes in the search bar appear to only be available to a handful of users on the beta channel currently, chances are it will while before it gets to the stable channel.  Fingers are crossed to reveal as soon as the changes start rolling out to the public.
